Well hey there, thanks for stopping by! My name is Allyson and I started this blog after embarking on my own journey to understand the power of real food. Without ever making the connection between my diet and years of my own health issues, I traveled abroad to Greece as a final qualification before graduating from UNC Chapel Hill. Five days before leaving the program for home, I met and fell in love with my (now) husband and dropped everything to move across the world with him. Departing from the United States at 22 meant leaving my family, friends, and sense of security. Although I didn’t know it at the time, I would also be leaving behind my dependence on modern “conveniences” like microwaves and pharmaceuticals, only to trade them in for traditional cooking and time-honored health remedies.

Upon returning to the US two years later (my Greek Kebab by my side) I began to suffer from some serious health issues. It was then I decided to dive full force into understanding the healing power of real foods. The journey has been long, and often arduous, but I am coming through it stronger and wiser and convinced that our health is desperately dependent on what we put in our mouths every day. I’ve learned to trust in the body’s innate healing capabilities, and have been amazed by the positive changes that can take place when we just learn to listen and give it exactly what it is asking for.

Our modern advances have brought us a long way, but I feel that by abandoning the practices and traditions that our ancestors thrived on for thousands of years, we have actually begun to degrade our health and wellbeing. Reclaiming Yesterday is about using the knowledge and wisdom that has been handed to us from previous generations and incorporating it into the modern world we live in today.

I’ve come a long way from the unhealthy “modern” lifestyle I once knew as my own, and I promised myself that once I returned to America I wouldn’t forget all that I had learned. I’m still hungry for information on how we can be the most healthy, happy humans we were so intricately designed to be. I’d love to share with you what I’ve learned on my way, and I hope you come along with me to discover how we can cultivate our best selves, realize our full health potential, and love every minute of this amazing life.
