Virgin Cherries Jubilee

Fruit is nature’s candy.  And when you’re dying for something sweet, it’s what your body is really asking you for- so having it for dessert is only logical!

I anticipate cherry season all year, because there is nothing quite like sitting in the sunshine with a bowl of the little red gems to work on.  But thanks to freezers, I enjoy this dessert year round.  Sweet enough to satisfy a dessert craving, and wholesome enough to have for breakfast.

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of sweet cherries, pitted (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • juice of half an orange, plus zest
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1.5 tsp butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • dash of cloves
  • dash of salt

Add all ingredients to a small saucepan.  Bring to medium-high heat and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.  You know you’re done when the majority of the liquid has been reduced and you are left with a thick sauce.  Serve with a dollop of crème fraiche or yogurt, or use to top your morning oatmeal.

Added Bonus: your house will smell amazing for the rest of the evening.  Enjoy!

  1. First off I want to say awesome blog! I had a quick question that I’d like
to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I have had a tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out.
I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems
like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to
figure out how to begin. Any ideas or hints? Appreciate it!

    • Thanks for reading! Before I do any writing I will take some notes of things I want to include, then make a list of the way I want to include them. Starting out can be tough but if you stick with it you will usually fall into the rhythm. 🙂
